Swiss solo sailing legend Bernard Stamm has crossed the finish line of the VELUX 5 OCEANS in Bilbao (Basque Country) at 17:13:25 local time (15:13:25 GMT). On the fifth day, they raced. Following four difficult days where racing was postponed due to a lack of wind, the Louis Vuitton Cup started on Friday with Flights 1 and 2. The Italian Mascalzone Latino – Capitalia Team were the early heroes, beating the top ranked challenger, Emirates Team New Zealand in Flight 1. Super Model Tatjana Patitz gets her 18th man position, sailing aboard with BMW ORACLE Racing in Valencia on Monday 16 April, as described by Skipper Chris Dickson believes that the model will bring them luck. In all likelihood, her presence on the yacht will further boost the motivation of the crew on the first regatta day of the Louis Vuitton Cup. However another teams cleaning lady (Cushla) remarked “There are already enough TITS on that boat”. But confessed not as nice.

Well that was probably the shortest and wildest ride of my sailing life.
It was our 8th day at ’speedspot’ in Walvis Bay and conditions were looking good. We have neap tides at the moment so had to stay away from the shallows. We logged the wind for two minute sessions before and after the run and it showed an average around 17.5 knots. I guessed 18 to 19.
The launch and initial round-up into the wind to get flow attached went as normal. We had seen gusts up to 20 so I stuck out a little just in case. It was obviously quite choppy this far off the beach as Sailrocket quickly lifted onto her planing surfaces. (more…)
You got to give it to this dude, total respect ma man. The french skipper Corentin Douguet sailed in 55 knots wind in some fairly big waves and went for the kite? bring it on BIG MAN. + is there a part 2 to this?
