Just found this one again, you may have seen it but before, but it just shows you what you can do with some fibre glass and some old cloth + a human with time on their hands. enjoy

The Scottish IRC Championships Sponsored by Old Pulteney was won in style by Team Stratton headed by pensioner and long term veteran champaigner of Clyde Sailing Nick Stratton along with his son Miles and some good looking crew which has been recently put together to campaign their Brand spanking new Archambault A31 called A Neet Djinn. Winning both the Overall trophy and indeed Class 3 was in its self no mean feat with tight racing bands making every second count in all races along with a strong set of straight bullets in Class two from Salamander xx but it was judged that Class 3 was the tougher class and the Statton ship won the overall Trophy.
The A31 billed as a brilliant light wind boat turned heads on Saturday’s two races when it blew its tits off with winds in the constant 30+ kts destroyed the fleet in a style reserved for Fine Clyde Sailor gentlemen of a certain age still out on a mission, it may have been a new boat, but it was an old hand lying down many years of sailing experience to the wanabee’s and while the chat in the boozer was of the great speed both up and down wind from the A31 in the big breeze, it came as a double shock on Sunday when the light shifty winds prevailed and the A31 blew everyone away posting 4 bullets and discarding a second they only lost by two seconds on corrected time.
I’ve tried to find out more about this uncompromising IRC race boat and as Team Stratton are the main agents for the little big yacht I thought I would visit their web site www.nickstrattonyachts.com to find out more about winning the Scottish IRC’ Championships, but such is the modesty of Mr Nick Stratton on his latest major win you will not find it ther,e as he would probably think it vulgar to push it on the site, or just maybe he don’t want you to buy one right now until he’s won everything first, so if you want an A31 you better get your order in now. He must think ‘we came up the Clyde in a banana boat’. Give them a call.
This windy weekend at Largs was indeed this pensioners D-Day with almost straight bullets flying, just like the “Old days” he showed the true spirit and grit in not only dominating the Class but also winning the event overall. Mr Corson (very senior) planned the win last week with the precision and accumen required in blowing up a stategic bridge during war times. Corson obviously a long term campaigner on the Clyde realised early in the week that the Sailing Instructions stated that crew numbers were restricted by their IRC certificates, and having aquired the skills of local sailmaker John (Saturn) Highcock where he buys his winning sails from, was sailing on the boat and this meant that while everyone else was throwing off crew to comply with the certificate Mr Corson opted just to have the sailing instuctions changed. This as you might think would be Mission Impossible for a mear mortal to do. However the Mudhook Yacht club being one of the oldest clubs in sailing history and having a depth of mystery attached to it only equal to that of the Vatican or a MP’s expenses claim, so obviously an easy to deal with bunch of dudes looked on the situation with clarity and called the right thing to do and amended the sailing instuctions accordingly…check it out here PURE CLASS …………………………SIR CARSON (Legion status granted) and well done on your treble win.
Oh yes, and there were some others sailing at the regatta who did good and others that did not do so well and you all know who you are? Read the full report at www.clydesailing.co.uk prob late Sunday night (sorry no pressure Chas) here’s the results page
P.S You may realise that I’ve actually posted this on the morning, of the last day of the regatta before the last two races have been sailed, but for me regardless of the final outcome Mr Corson and the crew of Salamander xxxxx11 are the winners this weekend (Go silver Power) What is a Mudhook anyway?
